Sugarbasinglings

It had seemed like a great day for all sugarkind. After long years of political tension a cooperation treaty has been brokered by the Fructose Republic and the Glucose Bureaucracy, at last an era of prosperity seemed close at hand. Then The Devourers came. Their machines descending upon columns of fire from the marshmallow sky, melting whole cities into flowing caramel. All military was mobilized in an enormous counterattack, clouds of cinnamon dust covered the battlefield as whipped-cream-throwers were shooting their high-velocity ammunition at the machines. Legions of Fortune Cookies charged with their sharpened popsicles and waffle barriers were hastily constructed to protect the innocent. And yet, not a single scratch was made on the metallic surface of the enemy vessel. Then an opening appeared in the structure. Quickly running out of options a diplomatic delegation of gingerbread people was sent in a hope that this was all just a huge misunderstanding. One of Them emerged from the opening, a grotesque, tall, and most importantly very non-sugary body. For a moment the creature seemed to be halted, perhaps in surprise. A member of the diplomatic delegation extended a hand as a sign of peace. The adversary did the same and for a minuscule instant sugarkind felt hope once again. Then as their hands touched The Devourer snapped off the arm of the gingerbread diplomat and started shoving it into their upper orifice.
